About Scott Bennett
I am a landscape painter at heart, with a long apprenticeship to abstraction, and a love for plants, particularly of the carnivorous variety. I have also been a photographer for about as long as I've been a painter, and so you'll see galleries of selected photographs along with my paintings and drawings.
I have been growing, photographing and looking at carnivorous plants in the field for most of my life. Orchids, bromeliads, ferns and other plants have caught my eye along the way as well, and recently I have taken to drawing and painting the apples from our trees and the roadside wild flowers at the end of our driveway. The closer you look, the more interesting things get.
In the catalogue to the exhibition, The Mirror Eye: Greenberg in Syracuse, Suzanne Shane writes about my abstract paintings and botanical works "….. "The Woods" is a strangely primitive dance - the upright collage strips and stick etchings create a volume that is also a dense, impassable thicket. From these two paintings it would be impossible to guess that Bennett is an artist who also produces precise, small-scale botanical drawings of rare plants and flowers."
The works whose images are available as prints and cards on this site are primarily my botanical paintings and drawings, and photographs. I'll be adding new works regularly, so come back to look. I hope you enjoy my work.
You can see many examples of my landscape, still life and non-objective paintings on canvas, which are Not available as prints, along with more detailed biographical information at these sites:
